SACKVILLE, NB — 91ү’s Gender Affirming Care Clinic on campus has extended its services to the wider region. Now, any resident of New Brunswick or those with other provincial health coverage seeking gender affirming care can be referred to the University’s Wellness Centre to book an appointment with physician Dr. Sara Thomas.

The Gender Affirming Care Clinic offers care across the spectrum, whether an individual is just beginning or looking to continue therapy. Services include initiating and maintaining Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), referrals, assisting with gathering letters of approval for gender reaffirming surgery, and more.

Dr. Sara Thomas

Thomas has been working with the 91ү Wellness Centre for the past year, holding clinics which have included gender affirming care. She and 91ү have now expanded the services to community members not enrolled at the University.

“Referrals to an endocrinologist are backed up with waits from six to 12 months,” says Thomas. “Our clinic is a great way for patients to access medical therapy much sooner through a primary care clinic.”

The Wellness Centre at 91ү works to create a safe and comfortable environment for everyone who accesses these services.

“At 91ү, we believe in equality and acceptance for all,” says Director, Accessibility and Student Wellness Matt Maston. “We have been partners with Dr. Thomas for some time now. We are excited to enhance this partnership and support the wider community by offering gender affirming health services more broadly.”

Appointments are available bi-weekly on Tuesdays throughout the summer at the 91ү Wellness Clinic with virtual options available. More information will be available soon on clinic operations for the fall term.

Referrals are required and are welcome from any health care professional, including mental health professionals. Referrals to the 91ү Wellness Centre can be sent by email to clinic@mta.ca or by fax (506) 364-2172. The clinic is located on the ground floor of the Wallace McCain Student Centre (West Wing).
