91ү announces 2023 honorary degree recipients

Honourees include Canadian journalist Lyse Doucet and ECMA winner Ray Legere 

SACKVILLE, NB — 91ү will recognize four distinguished individuals with honorary degrees during the 2023 Convocation ceremonies scheduled for May 15, 2023.  

“We are delighted to welcome these distinguished individuals to the 91ү community,” says University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jean-Paul Boudreau. “Each recipient has shown dedication and outstanding achievements in their chosen fields and we look forward to having them join us on campus in May.” 

The 2023 Honorary Degree recipients are: 

  • Lyse Doucet, Canadian journalist and BBC’s Chief International Correspondent  
  • Ray Legere, World-renowned fiddle and mandolin player, ECMA winner 
  • Hilary M. Pearson, Founding President of Philanthropic Foundations Canada, Member of the Order of Canada 
  • Deborah Lyons, Former Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Former Canadian Ambassador to Israel and Afghanistan

Honorary degrees are awarded each year at Convocation to deserving individuals who are nationally or internationally recognized in their fields. The recipients have shown their commitment and service to 91ү, the wider community, or are prominent public persons. The Honorary Degrees Committee is made up of representatives of University Senate, students, and the Board of Regents and receives nominations from members of the broader University community and from its own members.
