In addition to the language program requirements, students are expected to complete optional courses/electives. Current option courses include: "La gastronomie française," "Le rire et l'humour," "Le français des sciences," and "Le monde du travail."

 Killam Fellowship

The Killam Undergraduate Fellowships for Canadians

The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in Canada to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in the United States.

91·ðÒ¯ students may participate in the program either as a direct exchange student (registering at their home university, paying their home fees, and attending the host university as an exchange visitor) or as a self-placed visiting student (registering at the host university and paying host tuition fees).

91·ðÒ¯ students interested in the direct exchange program must be registered as a full-time student and be planning to return to full-time academic studies in the following year at 91·ðÒ¯.    The list of participating American universities can be found on the website.

The Killam Fellowships Program provides a cash award of $6,000 US per semester, health insurance, up to $800 for in-country travel during the exchange term, a fall orientation in Ottawa, and a spring seminar in Washington.

91·ðÒ¯ students who are interested in applying for a Killam Fellowship must complete the application and submit it to the Killam Fellowship program directly.  Applications are then forwarded to the International Centre and students will be inominated internally before being sent back to the Killam Foundation for final decisions.  Students normally are notified in March of their candidacy.    The application period for 2024-2025 academic year is now open.  The application deadline to apply is now January 10, 2024 (on the website it says the application deadline January 31st however this is when 91·ðÒ¯ must have our nominations made by and sent to Killam).

A completed application consists of:

  • Killam application
  • one-page personal statement
  • CV or resumé
  • list of interested courses at each preferred university with course equivalencies
  • two reference forms
  • official transcript
  • photocopy of passport or birth certificate.

If you have questions about this program, please contact the International Programs Coordinator if you want clarification on any of these items or strategies about how to make a stronger application. 91·ðÒ¯ students should be careful to follow the "Direct Exchange Program" application instructions as posted on the Killam Fellowship website.
